We met the gorgeous soul, Kentwaun Turner, on set during a ST. ROSE photoshoot and were instantly in awe by the graceful energy of this multidisciplinary artist. We sit down with model, dancer and chef to chat about where he is from, finding inspiration, and his exciting new culinary concept.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I'm actually from Alabama and moved to Columbus, Ohio in the Fall of 2013 to pursue an education and career in the culinary arts. I’m the owner of Ouranos which is a personal chef service that focuses on a unique & intimate dining experience. My clients have the freedom to create their own menu concepts personalizing how they’d like each dish prepared from 1 to 7 courses in styles ranging from comfort food to Haute’ Cuisine, or they can entrust my expertise to completely devise the flow of service. Just as its namesake, I aim to produce a “Heavenly” experience by having the client become a guest within their own home or environment. I thrive in being an artistic being and I could NOT have it any other way. Being a Classical trained Chef, working fashion model, stylist, actor, dancer/choreographer, singer, and soon to be author of a published book...I couldn't imagine being anything other than. "To live and be without art is to live and be without a soul." Besides that I would consider myself an introverted extrovert with very headstrong (typical Capricorn) qualities.
WHAT PHRASE DESCRIBES HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE?
I have to also say that I'm a fan of Kung Fu and ancient Chinese. There is actually a show based on the four elements being Water, Earth, Fire, or Air which become separate nations and outline how those that dwell there govern themselves. I always took a liking to the Air Nomads. They were people that lived by detachment from the world and centered themselves around spiritual energy living freely as air does. I try to live life as freely as the wind does.
AS A MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST, HOW DO YOU STAY INSPIRED?
To answer this question, I have to turn around and look at my three sisters Brittney, Jasmine, and Jakia. Emerging from very humble beginnings our parents did the best they could with what they had. They taught the importance of hard work, earning a higher education, being self sufficient, and having class about yourself. Things weren't the easiest all of the time but I remember being in Brittney's room one evening with our other two sisters saying "l'm going to get out of here one day and I'm going to make it. I'm going to be the example as your big brother for you to follow showing you that we can reach those levels of success we were told we couldn't have." That promise to my three queens, my sisters, keeps me inspired. Also, looking back at all that I've been through and how far I've come keeps me moving forward.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CUISINE OR DISH?
I really love experimenting with flavors and textures. I enjoy cooking and baking equally. However, I will say that there is more that can be done when I am working with desserts and chocolate crafting and such. I think that what I get the most bliss from is when I make a custom dish, meal, confection, etc. for someone knowing that it's only theirs and they're happy with it.
IF YOU HAD A WHOLE DAY TO YOURSELF TO BE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND IT?
I love Europe and would love to tour all of Europe if I could but Italy would probably be my number one pick along with Greece. I'd spend as much time as I could on the beaches, in restaurants, high fashion districts, or in nature. It would also be bittersweet too because having that types of beauty to yourself would be selfish not spending those sacred moments with someone you loved and cherished.
WHAT SONG DO YOU KNOW EVERY WORD TO?
The song that I sing at least once a day is called: The Ladder by: Ledisi. It's a simple song with so much truth and power within its lyrics and it's a daily reminder everyday to continue to climb towards everything that I desire.
FAVOURITE FRAGRANCE FROM THE ST. ROSE COLLECTION?
It's a tough decision but there was one that took me over the edge and that was with Juliet in White. It really does transports me everytime I put it on. I enjoy how protected and empowered I feel spiritually from it but also how masculine and at the same time, vulnerable I become as well.

"Push yourself! Sink or Swim, it is Up to You!"
