Can you tell us how your journey into the makeup industry started?

I was still living in Vancouver, my hometown, balancing my studies in business and marketing at college with a few classes at film and art school. During this time, I was also working as a sales rep for a beauty supply company. Despite the busy schedule, I began to feel a strong desire for a creative outlet. It was then that I stumbled upon a course in makeup for film and TV at my school.

To my surprise, I quickly fell in love with the art of makeup. Recognizing this newfound passion, I made the decision to leave my job and delve into opportunities within the makeup industry. This marked the beginning of my journey into makeup, where I sought to refine my skills, gain experience, and establish my reputation.

This decision led me to explore various avenues within the makeup industry, including fashion and commercial work. I eventually relocated first to Toronto and then to New York, where I had the opportunity to assist some legendary makeup artists. These experiences were instrumental in furthering my career and shaping my path in the makeup industry.

How do you create a flawless base for makeup application during these cold winter months?

To combat dryness and maintain a smooth complexion special attention to skincare is required. Cold weather can dehydrate your skin, so it's essential to keep it well-hydrated. I use a rich moisturizer or one that’s suitable for the skin type I’m dealing with. I’ll often layer a hydrating serum or facial oil into my application for an extra boost of moisture.

"Fragrance serves as the final touch for all my looks, whether I'm heading to a pilates class, going to work, or getting ready for a night out. It's a non-negotiable step in my routine because it helps set an emotional tone for me."

What are your favorite products to create a natural looking face?

I’ve been using both Westman Atelier Vital Complexion Drops and Hourglass Veil Skin Tint on myself. They work well combined with a stick for areas that need extra coverage and color correcting - like under the eyes or on my cheeks where I suffer from rosacea. Jones Road Face Pencils, Merit The Minimalist and Mineral Fusion Liquid concealer are my favorites at the moment. Though, I do love the Armani Silk Foundations applied with a wet Beauty Blender for red carpet moments. The oil free foundation leaves the skin looking super smooth and holds throughout the day and night.

Do you ever style fragrance with a makeup look?

Fragrance serves as the final touch for all my looks, whether I'm heading to a pilates class, going to work, or getting ready for a night out. It's a non-negotiable step in my routine because it helps set an emotional tone for me. I never feel fully put together without it!

How do makeup trends in the present day reflect a blend of past decades for you?

Fashion and beauty are cyclical and whether people know it or not, most trends in beauty are inspired by the past. At the moment, we’re seeing a lot of the 1990’s - whether it be visible lip liner, a more matte complexion or velvety lips.

Hair first, or makeup first?

I’m terrible at doing my hair so it’s always makeup first for me! Luckily a sleek low pony never fails me.
